Genre Research: Happy Death Day two
An element of this specific mystery film that we would like to base our final task off of is mostly the element of surprising plotlines, something that Happy Death Day 2U has a strong advantage in is the fact that the main character dies over and over again, and every time she wakes up she tries her best to survive and investigate what’s truly causing her to be stuck in this endless time loop of being stuck in the same exact day reliving the same exact moments. Having a storyline that keeps the audience engaged to find out the most unexpected outcomes can really bring a movie together and Happy Death Day truly proves what that means.
Some of the elements I enjoyed from this movie was how each character had been completely rewritten compared to the first movie representing the parallel universe the main character had been put in and how this time it won’t be the same and that we have new mysteries to solve in this current sequel. Another element enjoyed was the cinematography itself and the feeling it puts the audience with for example how a dimly lit room with blinking lights maybe come to be as a warning sign that a killer may be lurking nearby. It makes the audience worry in specific for our characters cause just how the scenes are put together you are able to tell what may come next for our characters.
An element I disliked about this movie was the confusing storytelling and how it even correlates to the first film in general. The fact that this is a completely different dimension and it’s caused by a time machine makes it hard to keep up with what we already know from the first film. As well as the emotional hook to this movie where she either has to stay in a dimension where her mother is alive or a dimension where it’s just like her old one. In the end she goes back to her old one which doesn’t really make sense cause then there wouldn’t have been any point of the film in general.
